The German Turkish Community criticized the attitude of Foreign Minister Analena Burbok during the joint press conference with her Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu last Friday in Istanbul.
“I would have preferred some issues to have been discussed diplomatically behind closed doors. In any case, one has to find other methods to discuss,” German Turkish Community President Gyokai Sofuoglu told the RND Network, noting that the two ministers “moved away from the language of diplomacy and each of them spoke with messages to domestic politics”. He even expressed the hope that “the population of Turkish origin will not suffer under these conditions”, as has happened in the past in similar confrontations.
However, Mr. Sofuoglu expressed his satisfaction with the fact that Annalena Burbok met in Turkey with representatives of the opposition. “I see a change of model with Mrs Burbok. She visited the opposition for the first time. I think that is good because the opposition can always form the next government and one should cultivate their relationships,” he commented.
