Distrito Federal confirms two cases of the Ômicron variant

The governor of the Federal District, Ibaneis Rocha (MDB), told the CNN this Thursday (2) that there are two positive cases for the Ômicron variant in the state.

According to information from the anchor of the CNN Kenzô Machina two men, aged between 40 and 49, tested positive for Ômicron in the Federal District.

At a press conference at the Ministry of Health on surveillance and monitoring of the new variant of the coronavirus in Brazil, the Health Secretary of the Federal District, General Manoel Luiz Narvaz Pafiadache, confirmed that the passengers were on a flight that departed from South Africa, passed through Ethiopia before disembarking in Brazil.

According to Pafiadache, the two men passed through Guarulhos airport, in São Paulo, before disembarking in Brasília.

“Today, with genetic sequencing, we confirmed Ômicron in the two passengers. One has mild symptoms, another is asymptomatic. The team quickly collected information from passengers on the Guarulhos-Brasilia flight. Today we have two people with Ômicron detected in Brasília”, he stated.

The two passengers have the complete vaccination schedule, including the booster dose. According to the Health Secretary, one of them has mild symptoms, and the other is asymptomatic.

With the confirmation, the two positive cases of Ômicron in the DF are added to the three cases of the variant that were confirmed in the state of São Paulo this week.
