“Disturbing”, criticizes Tim Burton after seeing AI reproduce his style in Disney characters

In an interview with “The Independent”, Tim Burton commented on an article by “BuzzFeed”, a company focused on generating diverse content, which used artificial intelligence (AI) to recreate some Disney characters with gothic and pale aspects, notable characteristics in the director and filmmaker’s career.

World famous for films, animations and series such as “Edward Scissor Hands “, “Alice in Wonderland “, “Beetlejuice – Ghosts Have Fun “, “Batman “, “The Corpse Bride ” it is clear, “Wandinha “, Burton says he had a very disturbing feeling when he saw technology customizing Disney studio characters.

“They had the AI make my versions of Disney characters. I can’t describe the feeling it gives you. It reminded me of when other cultures say, ‘Don’t take my picture because it’s taking your soul.’”

In the “BuzzFeed” publication, the characters “Sleeping Beauty “, with a pale appearance, a black dress and a dark look, “snow White “, with an equally macabre look and “Pocahontas ” running through a somewhat haunted forest. The director recognizes that some of the projections were good, but that the experience of seeing his talent cloned and imitated is not pleasant.

“What it does is suck something out of you. It removes something from your soul or psyche; this is very upsetting, especially if it has to do with you. It’s like a robot takes your humanity, your soul,” he says.

Currently, Burton is waiting for the negotiations of the Hollywood screenwriters and actors’ strike to continue working on the production of the feature film “The Ghosts Have Fun 2” and the second season of “Wandinha”, on Netflix.

Disney never again?

In 2022, the filmmaker commented at the Lumiere Festival in France that he will probably not work with Disney again. During a press conference, he noted that the company is largely focused on its tentpole franchises, particularly the Star Wars and Marvel cinematic universes and its potential involvement in the MCU in the future.

“I can only deal with one universe, I can’t deal with a multiple universe,” he said.
