Honor was a subsidiary of Huawei for a long time, but at the end of 2020 it spun off and became a completely independent company. In light of the US sanctions against Huawei, Honor has benefited from the divorce. Google services and applications will soon be able to return to the brand’s smartphones.

This was reported by the “Kommersant” edition with reference to two sources “familiar with the situation.”
In 2020, both Honor and Huawei were forced to either “restart” smartphones on outdated platforms, or install proprietary alternatives to Google Play and other Google services. For example, Huawei and Honor began using AppGallery instead of Google Play when, due to US sanctions, the company lost the ability to install Google services and applications on its devices.
According to Kommersant, the smartphones that Honor will release after the separation from Huawei will no longer have AppGallery. Earlier Honor smartphones will retain the AppGallery. Honor V40 is expected to be the first flagship of independent Honor.
It is specified that the new Honor line will debut on the international market in the spring, including in Russia. Accordingly, the return of Google services to Honor smartphones is expected in the spring, just on new models.
Interestingly, Huawei’s Russian official website recently got rid of all references to Honor smartphones.
