DJ Rennan da Penha is acquitted of drug trafficking charges

DJ Rennan da Penha was acquitted of a drug trafficking charge, in a process that had been going on since 2015.

The producer was accused of association with trafficking, and had the defense of the Institute for the Defense of the Black Population (IDPN).

The DJ announced the result of the process on Friday (2), through his social networks. “Victory of funk and the favela. We always believe in justice,” he wrote.

In more than seven years of process, the DJ was arrested twice. The first was a preventive detention in 2016. He was released and acquitted in the first instance.

The second time occurred in 2019, when Rennan was sentenced on appeal to six years and eight months in prison. At the time, he did not remain in jail because the Federal Supreme Court (STF) decided that arrests in second instance can only occur after the transit judged, that is, when there is no longer any possibility of appeal.

In more than 10 years of career, the producer and DJ has already been nominated for a Latin Grammy and won two statuettes at the Multishow Brazilian Music Award.
