The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that the recognition of bitcoin as a means of payment could harm the financial system.
According to the RIA Novosti publication, Dmitry Peskov commented on the status of bitcoin in Russia. He noted that the country is not ready to legalize bitcoin as a means of payment.
According to the presidential spokesman, if cryptocurrency has the same status as monetary instruments, it will harm the financial and economic system. He claims that Russia is not ready for such a step. In addition, Dmitry Peskov said that Bitcoin is a quasi-currency.
Apparently, the reason for commenting on the status of bitcoin in Russia was the today’s entry into force of the law recognizing BTC as legal tender in El Salvador. Today the government of El Salvador has begun purchasing bitcoin and has already purchased 400 BTC.
The purchase of bitcoins takes place as part of the launch of a special fund for $ 150 million to support the implementation of the cryptocurrency. The coins will be used to operate the system for exchanging BTC for US dollars and vice versa. Recently, large-scale protests against the legalization of the first cryptocurrency were held in El Salvador.
