A 39-year-old doctor was arrested in Canoas, Rio Grande do Sul, on Thursday (12). Valmir Venâncio da Silva has a record of rape, rape through fraud and other crimes, according to the police.
The arrest comes after an investigation of a crime committed in New Hertz , during gynecological medical care in the public health network. The victim reported to the police that the doctor presented a libidinous and abusive conduct during the consultation.
“After verifying that the victim’s report was reliable, mainly due to the background of the accused, who had been serving a sentence in an open regime for a conviction related to a similar fact, we represented the decree of preventive detention, which remained deferred on yesterday’s date. After some diligence, the doctor was located and arrested in Canoas”, says delegate Felipe Borba.
Investigations found that the doctor had also been the target of complaints for similar crimes in the cities of Caxias do Sul, São Leopoldo and Sapucaia do Sul, in addition to Nova Hartz.
Silva continued to work normally in the health network until the announcement of the precautionary ban on professional practice on December 22, by decision of the Regional Council of Medicine of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (Cremers).
“According to Cremers, the previous conviction was not notified to the federal authority, which made it impossible to proceed with the respective processing in the ethical-professional scope”, explained the delegate. “We hope that today’s arrest will lead to the definitive cancellation of this individual’s medical record”, highlighted the delegate.
In a note, Cremers stated that in view of the new case that surfaced in the media, that the doctor continued to exercise the profession without authorization, the council forwarded a complaint of Illegal Practice of Medicine to the Federal Police and the Federal Public Ministry.
According to the police, new reports of victims should emerge from the arrest of the doctor. After completing the legal formalities, the prisoner was taken to the Novo Hamburgo Police Station for subsequent entry into the prison system.
