Businesswoman Viviane Lira Monte, aged 24, died 22 days after undergoing six aesthetic procedures in Sobral, Ceará. According to her husband, Renan Santiago, she initially planned to perform only two surgeries, but was convinced by the doctor to undergo four other procedures.
“She went to have her breasts reduced and have liposuction on her stomach. When he came back from the appointment, he said he would do more things because the doctor gave a better price and guaranteed that everything would work out”, reported Santiago.
Viviane even made an appointment with another specialist, but gave up. After being recommended by a friend and doing research on the internet, she chose to undergo the procedures with this doctor.
Renan states that the specialist charged between R$25,000 and R$30,000, demanding that payment be made upfront and in cash. “She left home to make her dream come true. The doctor didn’t want to receive it via bank transfer”, he highlighted.
The procedures were carried out at Hospital do Coração de Sobral, on July 31st. The surgery ended around 8pm, and the next day, at 11am, Viviane was discharged.
“On the day of discharge, she was very weak. The doctor said it was normal, and we believed it”, explained the husband. The next day, Viviane was on the verge of fainting, with low blood pressure.
After being admitted, the family was informed of the seriousness of her condition. Renan regrets that the doctor only visited her once in the ICU. “On the first day, he went to see. Then he abandoned us. She just kept calling to calm us down, while we watched her slowly die. It was 22 days of suffering, without any good news”, he said.
Viviane was conscious for 21 days and only on the last day, when she needed to be intubated, did she lose consciousness. “Every day, she spoke to us, with her voice very weak and her breathing difficult. She felt like she was dying. On the last day, it got a lot worse,” said Renan.
THE CNN consulted the doctor’s data in public sources. He is actively registered with the Federal Council of Medicine (CFM), with specializations in general and plastic surgery. The reporter contacted the doctor, but received no response and is also awaiting a position from the CFM on the case.
The Civil Police, in a statement, informed that it continues to carry out interviews and investigations in order to elucidate an incident of suspicious death, which occurred this Thursday (26), in Sobral, in the Integrated Security Area 14 (AIS 14) of the State. According to the Police Report (BO), registered by the victim’s family, a 24-year-old woman died as a result of complications from plastic surgery carried out on August 31st of this year. The case is investigated by the Sobral Municipal Police Station, the PCCE unit responsible for elucidating the case.
