The doctor responsible for the reconstruction surgery of the influencer who lost her lips after a harmonization went wrong found traces of PMMA four years after the procedure.
Marina Michelini, 35, had her mouth deformed and lost part of her upper lip after undergoing facial harmonization with a dentist from Matão, a city in São Paulo. The influencer is now undergoing the process of reconstructing her face.
“Mari underwent her fourth surgery with our team. The four highly complex surgeries were a success. Her lip is forming. We’re almost there,” said surgeon Raulino Brasil in a post on his social media.
In contact with CNN Marina said that, this Tuesday (23), the fibrosis of the upper lip was removed, and PMMA was found, a substance that can cause serious complications to the health of patients.
“In fact, 100% it will never come out. But they managed to remove a little more, thank God. And the tape is to prevent the area from swelling again and causing more fibrosis,” reported the influencer.
A CNN the surgeon explained that the material ends up adhering to the adipose tissue and muscle tissue, which is why it cannot be completely removed and sometimes cannot even be identified.
“There really was a little more material there in that region. To avoid too many after-effects, we don’t remove much,” said Raulino.
On her social media, the influencer shows the steps of the procedures and how the process is going: “very happy with the progress!”, she commented.
“It’s been a very difficult, very challenging case, but thank God the grafts worked out very well. […] because they have already moved it several times, so the vascularization is lost and the risk of the recipient site not receiving this flap is very high”, added the surgeon.
