Anavdos was the only one left doctor when he had to remove 63 spoons from the stomach of a patient who had allegedly been swallowing them for over a year.
Dr. Rakesh Khuran performed the two-hour operation on a 32-year-old man in her area of Indiawith the patient remaining intubated.
“Upon further inspection, we realized the foreign objects were steel spoons”Dr. Khurana told the The National.
The patient was initially admitted to the hospital with severe stomach pain, with the doctors thinking it was a tumor, but the x-rays showed a… cluster of foreign objects.
Doctors made incisions in the 32-year-old’s abdomen and removed the metal spoons one by one.
“It was 63 spoons. Never in my almost 35-year career have I seen such a case… It is one of the rare medical cases,” said the surgeon.
The patient’s family believes he… ate the spoons while undergoing drug addiction treatment at a local clinic.
The 32-year-old, as it turned out, did not swallow the spoons whole but first took out the oval part by swallowing only the handles.
