The Civil Police of Minas Gerais stated that, before kidnapping a newborn baby in Minas Gerais, neurologist Claudia Soares Alves, 42 years old, had been considered eligible to be included in the National Adoption Registry.
“Evidence indicated that the Investigated had obtained the right to housing in the National Adoption Registry, whose judicial process indicated favorable psychological aptitude for her, including based on documentation provided by her during the case,” says a note from the Civil Police.
The doctor was indicted for the crimes of ideological falsehood and human trafficking and is currently in preventive detention. The investigation against her was concluded last week.
According to the police, Claudia “had already planned the crime in the months prior to the abduction of the child”. “She falsely told family and friends that she was pregnant; bought layettes for babies, and looked for children in other states of the federation who could be illegally adopted by her, using fraud and enticing vulnerable people to hand over their newborns”, the police added.
In a statement, the doctor’s defense stated that the process remains under judicial secrecy, but clarifies that, regardless of the content of the indictment and even the eventual complaint, “it believes that the issue will be resolved at the conclusion of the insanity incident, which is already underway”.
