The doctor, who was beaten and robbed by her boyfriend inside her own apartment in Copacabana, in the South Zone of Rio, suffered head trauma, fractures in her jaw, back, spine and neck, according to the medical report, which is included in the complaint filed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Rio de Janeiro against the suspect João Phelippe de Souza Melo, arrested on Tuesday afternoon (30), in Campo Grande, in the West Zone of Rio. The incident occurred on the 13th.
According to the delegate responsible for the case, the victim remains hospitalized and has no discharge date.
The beating allegedly began during an argument between the couple, and the victim allegedly tried to take shelter in another room in the house to protect herself.
The two had been in a relationship for about 10 months.
In addition to the assaults, the suspect allegedly locked the woman in the bathroom while stealing more than R$40,000, including cash and jewelry.
“The defendant, knowingly and voluntarily, deprived his partner of her freedom, through false imprisonment, by locking her in the bathroom of his own residence, then escaping in possession of the goods he had just stolen,” says an excerpt from the complaint.
He fled the scene and the victim needed help from condominium employees to get out of the apartment.
The suspect must answer for the crimes of robbery, kidnapping and false imprisonment, serious bodily harm and domestic violence against women.
