Doctors in the capital of São Paulo demand meeting with City Hall and threaten strike

The doctors of Primary Health Care (PHC) in the city of São Paulo met in an assembly this Thursday (13) to define the stoppage of activities from January 19. According to the category, the increase in cases of flu syndromes among professionals has generated work overload.

In a letter released this Thursday, the doctors say they have been “dealing for more than two years with an intense overload and suffering from physical and psychological illness” and demand a meeting with the São Paulo City Hall and the Municipal Health Department.

The main claim of the category is the immediate hiring of more professionals for the care of flu syndromes. In addition, they demand “the exemption from attending weekends and holidays” and “the guarantee of minimum working conditions”.

This Thursday, the city of São Paulo authorized the emergency hiring of doctors, to make up for the lack of professionals who are on leave after contracting Covid-19. Emergency contracts will be made by social organizations that provide services to municipal health and doctors can be hired as a legal entity.
