Document details meeting on missing persons in Amazonas

The Attorney General’s Office (AGU) sent documents to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) that show that, in a meeting on the 10th, the Institutional Security Office of the Presidency of the Republic (GSI) questioned whether the disappeared Bruno Araújo Pereira and Dom Phillips arrived in an indigenous area and if they made contact with the (Funai) National Indian Foundation, beforehand.

Funai reported that there is no news that they have entered indigenous territory.

At the same meeting, the Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (Apib) asked if there was already any effective action with the Peruvian Government and asked when the searches actually started. At the time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that it had not had contact with the Peruvian authorities so far.

Regarding the start of the search, the Ministry of Defense stated that the troops began the operation on Monday (6), “as soon as the matter became known. After that, the actions were intensified with Brazilian Army troops and other bodies”.

The Public Defender’s Office (DPU) even questioned the Defense about information given at a press conference on Wednesday (8), that troops would have been deployed on Sunday (5). According to the GSI, “’having the means allocated’ means that the means have been made available for the search operation”.

That Friday (10), four small vessels, logistical support vessels, an MB Esquilo helicopter, a Brazilian Army (EB) Jaguar helicopter and more than 200 people were engaged in the search, according to the document.
