Behind the scenes of the reunion of former members of Hawaii engineers was the subject of a documentary that premieres this Wednesday (26) on YouTube. Carlos Maltz former drummer, and Augusto Licks former guitarist, got together for a show in Porto Alegre in April this year.
The two were part of the classic formation of the national rock band, which also featured Humberto Gessinger on vocals, and graduated in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul.
After 30 years of no contact, Licks reached out to Maltz after a turbulent departure from the band. The reason was an invitation from Sandro Trindade, lead singer of the band Engineers without CREA to unite the two at the Porto Alegre show.
Maltz and Licks, together in Engenheiros sem CREA, will now perform shows across the country, between August and September, in capitals such as Florianópolis , Curitiba , Brasilia It is São Paulo .
The documentary shows what this reunion was like, from the first contact during rehearsals to behind-the-scenes scenes. There are also statements from producers, fans and the musicians themselves. “It’s a gesture of peace, this reunion is an act of satisfaction for the people who follow us”, says Licks.
“30 years without talking to each other and now here together playing. The connection has not been lost, it has a different, special flavor”, says Carlos Maltz.
Marcelo Pitz one of the founders of the band from Rio Grande do Sul and the trio’s first bass player, also participates in the special.
The documentary was produced by the channel “Na Ponta da Agulha”, where it will be available from 8pm. For Cassio Toledo, creator and presenter of the channel, the material shows the conflicts and vulnerabilities of renowned artists: “It is a very human document that will certainly connect with people, even those who are not fans. It’s about experiencing an important day for Brazilian rock.”
The channel is also preparing a documentary about the show by pianist and keyboardist Rick Wakeman, a former member of Yes, who was also in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul in April this year. It is expected to be released on YouTube on July 3rd.
The productions are signed by Carlos Vargas in filming and editing, Thiago Borba as photographer and responsible for the script, and Thais Blehm as marketing, commercial and creative manager.
