A new trend to hide pimples has gone viral on TikTok and has also gained fans in Brazil. The new “trick” is to use eye drops that reduce redness of the eyes to soften those more aggressive marks.
“I’ve been saving up for the best way to cover up a pimple without makeup for a long time,” claims tiktoker Bree Martin in her video, which already has over 2.4 million views.
The video received several impressed comments from followers. “A modern-day Albert Einstein,” says one follower. “Girl, if I had money, I would give you a million dollars. This is such good information,” says another.
Other followers pointed out that they already knew the technique. “I’ve been using it since high school. I can confirm it works in minutes,” reads one of the comments.
In the video, Bree uses a cotton swab to apply the drops to the affected regions and then shows the final result.

The trick has also arrived in Brazil. According to doctor Felipe Ribeiro, a dermatologist in São Paulo, in recent days, many patients have shown him the video. According to the doctor, the eye drops used by Bree contain the substance brimonidine, commonly used in the treatment of red eye syndrome.
“Its indication is to reduce the redness of the eyes, because it causes a decrease in the caliber of blood vessels”, explains Ribeiro. “Dermatologists also use this substance to treat the red skin of rosacea patients. With regard to pimples, it does not have this formal indication, but it can soften the reddened areas around the pimples for a few hours.”
Ribeiro warns, however, that there may be adverse effects, such as irritation, dermatitis and allergies, as well as stimulating the worsening of redness when its effect is over, the so-called rebound effect.
“This type of video goes viral because it is related to our tendency to look for magical and quick solutions. This is universal and natural”, says Ribeiro.
“Privileging this path is bad, because it always leads to frustration. Regarding the treatment of acne, the scenario is very different from what we had in the past and it is always worth a consultation with a dermatologist.”
