Does the fan have to face in or out? Manual of the World responds

Temperatures in October will be above average in most of the country, according to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet). Many people use a fan to be more comfortable inside their homes on hot days. But one question arises: are we using this appliance in the most efficient way? Manual do Mundo, the largest Science and Technology channel in Latin America, looked for the answer.

The main question is: should the fan blow the wind from the outside to the inside or is it better if it blows the air inside to the outside? Iberê Thenório tested it in practice and you can see everything in the video below.

The experiment was carried out using a fan blowing air into a room in both directions and taking temperature measurements using two thermometers: one inside and one outside the room, to assess the temperature difference. Smoke was also used to make it possible to observe air movement.

The result shows that the fan facing inwards made the temperature a little lower and cleaned the air more quickly.

Before using the test results to decide the position of your fan, it is worth evaluating which one provides the most comfort in your case. If the wind on your skin bothers you, leaving it facing outward may be better for you.
