A dog disappeared after being taken by her owner to a pet shop in Brasília for a bath and grooming. The owner registered a police report and the police are investigating possible failure to exercise caution when guarding or driving the animal.
The case happened on Monday morning (20). Journalist Bárbara Xavier is the dog’s owner, named Nina. THE CNN, She reported that her mother called the pet shop Puro Pelo Pets, located in Gama, about 40 km from the center of Brasília, to pick up the family’s two dogs at home for the service.
The establishment reported that bathing and grooming would take around two hours and that the animals would be returned around 12pm, which did not happen.
Concerned about the delay, Bárbara’s mother called the pet shop, who responded that they were finishing the services. Suspicious, she went to the location, where an attendant stated that the person responsible for the delivery had just left to take the dogs.
“At this point, we believe that Nina was already missing”, reported Bárbara.
At around 3:25 pm, an employee arrived at the family’s home, but only with one of the dogs. He got out of the car holding Nina’s collar, but without the animal, further increasing Bárbara’s mother’s anguish.
According to Bárbara’s mother’s report, the pet shop employee stated that Nina had escaped from the trunk of the car when she parked the vehicle to deliver the animals.
However, security images from the local street show the employee arriving in front of the residence without one of the dogs. The images record the man getting out of the car with just a shipping box and do not show any sign of Nina running down the street or near the vehicle, contradicting the employee’s initial version.

In a statement, the pet shop changed its version and stated that, when trying to put Nina in the car for return, the animal bit an employee and escaped the collar, running away.
The Civil Police of the Federal District confirmed that the images were attached to the investigation and that the establishment was notified to collaborate with the clarification of the facts.
Difficulty in searches
As soon as she learned that Nina had not arrived at her mother’s house, Bárbara began looking for the dog nearby, following the employee’s initial version that she had escaped in front of the residence.
Bárbara confronted the pet shop with the images, which were provided by a neighbor, and asked for clarification. According to her, at night, a representative of the establishment came to her house and suggested that Nina might have been in a “blind spot” for the cameras.
“I asked, for God’s sake, that they be honest with me, as I was very distressed by Nina’s disappearance”, declared Bárbara.
She also highlighted that the initial version of the pet shop hampered the search, as the family looked for the dog in the wrong place, based on the first explanation given by the employee.
Bárbara states that she is still trying to find Nina and asks for help if anyone has information.
“I spent the whole day looking for Nina and I’m receiving messages all the time, some from people saying they saw her, others saying they didn’t, and even messages from scammers trying to take advantage of the situation at such a difficult time”, says Barbara.

In a statement, Puro Pelo Pets reported that, as soon as the dog managed to free herself from the collar, the search began.
“Immediately, our team began the search, with the support of passers-by and residents of the region, but unfortunately, we were unsuccessful in locating her at first,” stated the establishment.
The pet store also claims that the employee later searched for the animal and that it is “mobilizing all resources to find Nina”.
“Search teams are actively working nearby and we have intensified publicity through social media and banners, with the aim of obtaining information about his whereabouts”, adds the establishment.
Finally, the pet shop said that it “deeply” regrets what happened and that it is available to owners to offer whatever support is necessary.
