A chihuahua dog stolen a year ago in Rondonópolis, 218 km from Cuiabá (MT), was recovered last Monday (4).
In contact with CNN this Wednesday (6), Spike’s businesswoman and tutor, Jania Nascimento, reported that she received messages from friends and family saying they saw a photo of Spike in an ad on Facebook.
According to the Civil Police, the animal was stolen by four people, while walking with its owner on November 1, 2023. A year after the crime, Jania saw an advertisement in a Facebook group about animals, which showed a photo of Spike.
Agents from the Specialized Robbery and Theft Police investigated the advertisement and identified the address of a woman who was with the dog. The chihuahua found had all of Spike’s characteristics.
When asked about how long she had had the animal, the woman said she got the dog in Sinop, 657 km from Rondonópolis, more than a year ago.
Therefore, investigators requested photos of the baby animal. However, the woman did not have the images. However, she had photos taken a few hours after the theft. The woman was then interviewed by agents at the police station.
According to the Civil Police, the neighborhood where the animal was stolen and where it was located are close. The chihuahua’s owner recognized the animal as her own and presented images and veterinary documentation of the dog since he was a puppy.

When Jania woke up last Friday (1st), she was surprised by countless messages from friends and family saying they had seen a photo of Spike in an ad on Facebook.
“She [pessoa que publicou o anúncio] claimed to have lost it [Spike]that his name was Bob and that her children were suffering”, he reported.
After that, the businesswoman went to the 1st Civil Police Station of Rondonópolis to report the publication.
After investigations, last Monday, agents sent a message informing Spike’s whereabouts. The police showed images of the chihuahua to Jania and she confirmed the dog’s identity.
“I already left the house crying. When I saw him walking through the door, I cried so much. I didn’t even see it was around me. It seems like I forgot the world. I spoke words that I was sure that, when I spoke, he would remember. I said ‘where’s mommy’s child?’ he already jumped on me”, he concluded.
