Dogecoin Foundation has registered its logos and names in the EU

The Dogecoin Foundation announced that it has registered the names “Doge”, “Dogecoin” and related logos as trademarks in the European Union.

About this Dogecoin Foundation wrote on Twitter, attaching a certificate dated January 13, 2022. The fund called this a small victory for Dogecoin, which will be an important step for its development. According to Dogecoin Foundation board member Jens Wiechers, the foundation took these measures to prevent attackers from using the name and logos of the project for fraud and extortion.

In September, the Dogecoin Foundation announced the emergence of a “clone startup” of Dogecoin 2.0, which has nothing to do with the original project. Wiechers added that when the fund applied to the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), his application competed with “half a dozen” other applications. In addition, about a hundred cryptocurrencies not affiliated with the Dogecoin Foundation have claimed to use the Dogecoin name.

The “fight” for Dogecoin intensified after the departure of board member and lead developer of Dogecoin, Ross Nicoll. In February, he wrote on his blog that the fund is “operating in an extremely challenging and stressful environment.” Nicholl noted that due to his core job as a software developer at Alphabet, there could be a conflict of interest with Dogecoin.

Last year, Dogecoin developers announced their intention to register headquarters in Liechtenstein. Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, advised them on this issue. A few months ago, the Dogecoin Foundation announced plans to create a “fair reward system” based on PoS with the assistance of Buterin.
