Dollar fall brings causes and consequences for the Brazilian economy

The dollar closed the first quarter of the year with the lowest price against the real in two years. The Brazilian currency experienced the second largest appreciation in the world, 17.8% from January to March.

The price of the American currency, in Brazil, has shown a downward trend since last December 21, when it reached the value of R$ 5.75.

Specialists point out that the depreciation of the dollar has as some of its main reasons the rise in the Selic rate, the rising price of commodities, the war in Ukraine and the increase in foreign investment in Brazil. But how do these elements determine the appreciation of the real?

To detail this picture and make projections about the future, this episode of E Tem Mais spoke with Raquel Landim, economics analyst at CNN Brasil, and with Henrique Castro, economist and finance professor at Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV).
