The testimony of the third suspect of having participated in the murders of the English journalist Dom Phillips and the indigenist Bruno Araújo Pereira caused the Federal Police to close yet another piece of this investigation. Jeferson Lima da Silva detailed the dynamics of the crime.
According to Federal Police (PF) sources, Jeferson Silva confirmed his participation in the murder of the victims. Jeferson said that he and Amarildo da Costa de Oliveira, known as Pelado, shot the victims.
The two said that minutes before being murdered, Bruno passed by Amarildo and even greeted him, but when the indigenist saw Amarildo’s boat, he would have asked Dom to photograph the boat. Amarildo told the police that Bruno had told Dom that this was the “invader’s” boat.
Amarildo, who already had animosity with Bruno, said he was irritated by the indigenist’s comment and then called Jeferson to execute Bruno Pereira. The two suspects, according to PF sources, told the same story in the deposition: that soon after Bruno’s speech, Amarildo and Jeferson took the boat and followed in pursuit of the victims. After reaching the pair, they fired. The victims would have died on the boat. Bruno was hit by three shots and Dom by one.
The Federal Police are still looking for the others involved in the murder of Bruno and Dom. In addition to the three suspects who are arrested, the police are still looking for five more people who would have helped to hide the bodies of the victims. All, according to the Federal Police, would be residents of the region.
The Criminalistics Institute of the PF finalizes the examinations on the victims’ bodies. The expectation is that they will be released by Thursday (23). The experts began ballistics examinations on the bodies, to assess more precisely how far the shots were fired and which parts were hit. The objective is to identify the dynamics of the crime.
