Domestic flights reach pre-pandemic level, says association

Demand for domestic flights in Brazil in July reached pre-pandemic levels, according to data released last Wednesday (7) by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The level is 0.9% higher than that recorded in July 2019.

In comparison with July last year, the high was 24.2%. Brazilian domestic flights represent 1.9% of the global market.

The increase in domestic flights in Brazil this year is below that recorded in Australia (239.7%), Japan (104%) and India (97.8%), but above the United States (which had an increase of only 0 .7%) and China, where there was a fall of 25.2%.

In Latin America, airline traffic increased by 59.2% in July compared to the same month in 2021.

In international flights, the annual increase was 119.4% on the same basis of comparison, well below that registered in the Asia-Pacific region (increase of 528.8%), but above Africa (84.8%).

global offer

The global offer of flights was 23.6% below pre-covid July, in 2019. Compared to the same month of 2021, there was a growth of 37.3%.

“July’s performance continued strong, with some markets approaching pre-covid levels, even with restrictions in parts of the world that were unprepared for the speed at which people were traveling again,” said IATA’s director general, Willie Walsh.

Globally, bookings indicate an upward trend in domestic flights, says Walsh.

International reserves, on the other hand, lost momentum in the face of seasonal data, such as the end of summer in the Northern Hemisphere.
