The Russian Ministry of Defense intends to provide military personnel and their families with domestically produced smartphones. The development of special mobile devices and applications is carried out on the basis of the Era military technopolis. This was reported by the TASS news agency with reference to the deputy head of the Information Systems Department of the military department, Major General Alexander Osadchuk.
During the international exhibition Svyaz-2021, Osadchuk said that the Ministry of Defense is experimenting to create a secure smartphone that will operate in various modes and will be able to provide secure communication.
Servicemen will use such devices not only during service, but also in daily activities on the territory of military units. For these purposes, the Era technopolis has already launched the Quartz project to create a digital ecosystem, and the Passport system is being prepared for implementation, which will provide the military with access to all the necessary data.
Recall that in March 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law that prohibits the military from using smartphones in the service and publishing information about themselves on the Internet. Already on April 1, recruits could only take push-button telephones with them.
