Domna Mikhailidou at the EU Council of Ministers: Urgent action plan for children of Ukraine

“It is imperative for every country to take immediate initiatives, so that together, as a United Europe, we can guarantee the fundamental human right to housing to all those in need,” said Undersecretary of Labor and Social Affairs Domna Michailidou to the Council of Ministers. of the European Union on safe housing, which took place today in Nice, France.

On the occasion of her participation in the Council of Ministers today, the Undersecretary of State, held on Monday, March 6, a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Energy, Ecological Transition and Housing of France, Emmanuelle Wargon.

During the meeting, the forthcoming European initiatives and policies of the two countries regarding the provision of affordable and safe housing, as well as the protection of Ukrainian refugees were discussed.

Especially for the worrying situation prevailing in Ukraine in terms of violation of fundamental rights of children, Domna Michailidou had already made an extensive report during her speech at the Council of Ministers of the European Union on the implementation of the European Child Guarantee (Child) Guarantee), which took place on March 4 in the French capital.

As the Deputy Minister characteristically stated: “It is an immediate priority of all of us, the elaboration and exchange of national Action Plans, in which each Member State will record the availability of coverage of hosting and child care needs by Ukraine. Each country must map the areas and structures “Where it can directly accommodate children. At the same time, their long-term integration into the school environment must be considered, in order to protect the right of every child to education.”

Finally, during her visit to Paris, Domna Michailidou had a working meeting with the French Deputy Minister of Children and Family, Adrien Taquet, with whom they exchanged practices on the common goals of the two countries to strengthen pre-school education and deinstitutionalization of children living in closed structures.
