Donald Glover announces film and final album as Childish Gambino

The actor and singer Donald Glover announced the launch of “Childish Gambino’s latest album” — the stage name used by Glover in the music scene until then.

In a live conversation on Instagram on Sunday (14), Donald Glover revealed that he intends to release a finished version of the unfinished album “3.15.20”, which he released in March 2020, during the pandemic, without doing any type of promotion. The finished version of the album should be called “Atavista”.

After releasing “Atavista”, Glover said that he will release his last album as Childish Gambino, and that the album will serve as the soundtrack for the film he is working on “Bando Storm and the New World”.

“The project I released, '3.15.20', which no one had ever heard of, people didn't even know I had released it, was originally called 'Atavista', it was supposed to be 'Atavista'”, explained the actor and singer. “But we released it quickly, I didn’t master it or mix it, I just released it. I was going through a lot, I thought everyone was going to die because of the pandemic. We launched, we finished, it's 'Atavista', we're launching it.”

“After this, there will be an album by Childish Gambino, Childish Gambino’s latest album,” he added. “I started working on this film called 'Bando Stone & the New World' and I've always loved soundtracks.”

According to Glover, the latest release under Gambino's name was inspired by other albums that served as film soundtracks — such as Prince's “Batman” album, which was released in 1989 to be the soundtrack to “Batman Forever,” the 1995 film.

The singer also thanked fans who have been waiting for a new release for years: “My fans are great and have been very patient and have been wanting so much – this album is for you.”

Outside of the music scene, Donald Glover recently starred alongside Maya Erskine in “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.” The series is available on Prime Video.
