Donald Trump chooses Mike Waltz to be national security adviser

President-elect Donald Trump said this Tuesday (12) that he chose Republican Representative Mike Waltz to be his national security advisor. The nominee is a retired Army Green Beret who has been a leading critic of China.

“I am honored to announce that Congressman Mike Waltz is appointed to serve in my Cabinet as my National Security Advisor. Mike is the first Green Beret to be elected to Congress and previously served in the White House and the Pentagon,” Trump said in a statement.

The president-elect also praised Waltz’s career. “Mike retired as a Colonel and is a nationally recognized leader in Homeland Security, a best-selling author and an expert on the threats posed by China, Russia, Iran and global terrorism,” added Trump.

He concluded by saying that “Mike has been a strong supporter of my ‘America First’ Foreign Policy agenda and will be a tremendous supporter of our pursuit of Peace through Strength.”
