Donald Trump’s App Launches on the Apple Store

An alternative social media platform backed by former President Donald Trump launched on Monday, becoming available for download from Apple’s App Store – but access to the service appears limited for now.

The service, a Twitter-like app known as Truth Social, is owned by Trump Media and Technology Group, the media company Trump started after leaving the White House.

Users who downloaded the app on Monday morning were greeted by a message inviting them to register for the service — but the sign-up process ended with a waiting list to access the platform that had already grown to more than 150,000.

The app’s debut showcases how Trump is trying to get back on social media a year after being suspended by several mainstream platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, following the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill.

Last week, Trump’s son Donald Jr. tweeted what appeared to be the former president’s first post on Truth Social.

“Get ready! Your favorite president will see you soon!” read Elder Trump’s message. Posts on the platform are called “truths”, while amplifications of a post are known as “retruths”.

Devin Nunes, the former Republican congressman who resigned to become the CEO of Trump’s media company, said last week that Truth Social hopes to be “fully operational” by the end of March, when “anyone can join the platform in the United States anytime.” Time.”

Trump’s app joins a growing ecosystem of digital products that cater to or are popular with conservatives.

Rumble, Parler, Gettr and other services have emerged as alternatives to major social networks.

But some have faced increasing difficulties: Parler, for example, was removed last year from Apple and Google’s app stores amid allegations that Jan. 6 protesters used the platform to incite violence.
