Donetsk: Kyiv hits local administration building, Russia-imposed separatists claim

LAST UPDATE: 14.40

Ukrainian forces on Tuesday shelled a building housing the headquarters of the local administration in separatist-controlled Donetsk, Russia’s TASS news agency reported, citing Russian officials, according to Reuters.

Three people were killed in a series of attacks today in Donetsk, which has been under the control of Russian-backed separatists since 2014, the Russian-appointed mayor of Donetsk said on his Telegram channel.

A separatist official said at least one of the shells used in the attack was fired by a US-made HIMARS artillery system, according to Russian news agencies.

Western officials have warned of a possible escalation of fighting in Ukraine this week as Wednesday marks six months since the Russian invasion.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry announced today that its forces shot down a Ukrainian SU-27 fighter jet over the Kharkiv region in eastern Ukraine. At the daily press conference, Moscow also said it had destroyed two US-made M777 howitzer artillery weapons.
