The sprinter, known as “the fastest man in the world”who won gold medals at the World Championships and Summer Olympics in the mid-1990s – including winning the 100m in a record time of 9.84 seconds at the 1996 Games is writing the as-yet-untitled book with the editor of Sportsnet.ca , David Singh.
Although recognized as legendary sportsman and a leader of the Jamaican community in Canada, Bailey has also come under fire during his rise in athletics for his focus and confidence. He was steadfast in fighting stereotypes and spoke out against inequalities, even when it caused controversy.
Bailey, who moved to Canada from Jamaica in 1981, began sprinting about a decade later, according to the Athens News Agency. After earning a degree in Economics, he competed in his first major international race at the 1995 World Championships, winning gold medals in the 100m and 4×100 relay.
Even before he excelled in athletics, Bailey was mentored to success by his father, a real estate investor. Bailey, who bought 11 properties by the age of 21, has continued that attitude into his athletic life and beyond.
