Microsoft last year announced the “date of death” of Internet Explorer – June 15, 2022. In a recent note, Microsoft urged enterprise customers to opt out of using the browser on their own without waiting for the official end of support:

Don’t wait until June 15th! Set your own IE end date.

Microsoft argues its call by the fact that since there are about six weeks left before the end of browser support, many organizations have already entered the final stage of preparations for abandoning it and they only have to wait for IE to be turned off after July 15th. Microsoft notes:

Now you just have to wait until IE shuts down after June 15th… Right? This is one approach, but we know that waiting for something to happen can be stressful, especially in complex IT environments. Therefore, instead of waiting, we recommend that you schedule your own internal decommissioning date. The best way to prepare for IE shutdown after June 15th is to proactively retire IE in your organizations by June 15th.
