Double asteroid from Eiffel Tower to pass close to Earth on March 21

A asteroid twice the size of the Eiffel Tower will approach Earth next week. The 2001 FO32 will travel two million kilometers from Earth, according to NASA.

The asteroid was first discovered 20 years ago and has a diameter of 440 to 680 meters. It’s about the largest asteroid to approach Earth so far in 2021.

As the 2001 FO32 makes its journey inside the solar system, the asteroid “gains speed like a skateboarder rolling down a ramp and then slows down after returning to deep space,” NASA explained.

The asteroid “poses no danger to Earth, As it will be at a distance of two million kilometers, a distance more than five times greater than that of the Moon from the Earth.

It will be located closest to Earth on March 21 and astronomers will be able to see it using large telescopes in the southern hemisphere.

Despite its great distance, according to NASA, will offer astronomers a “rare glimpse” of space rock.

The asteroid has been described as “potentially dangerous” by NASA’s Center for Near Earth Studies (CNEOS) and will approach our planet again in 2052.

However, there is no threat of a collision with our planet either now or in the coming centuries, according to the US space agency.
