Double test to travel to the UK

Once again expensive PCR test for all travelers regardless of vaccination history. The Johnson administration is focusing on the Omicron mutation.

As of 04:00 on Tuesday morning, the new travel measures of the British government came into force and it seems that they are making it difficult for both travelers and airlines.

Now, those over the age of 12 who want to come to the UK should not only show a negative test on arrival, but also undergo a PCR test by the second day of their stay in the country.

Specifically, the arrival test, whether PCR or RAPID, should be done 48 hours before the flight, while each traveler should be quarantined until the negative result of the PCR, which on average costs about 100 pounds.

And all this for the double vaccinated. Vaccinated people can practically not visit the United Kingdom for a few days, as they must remain in a mandatory 10-day quarantine upon arrival and undergo two PCR tests on the second and eighth day.

It is noted that, vaccinated or not, any test that is positive means a mandatory ten-day quarantine.

Reactions from the air

The travel industry, almost simultaneously with the announcement of the measures, demanded immediate financial assistance from the British government, as it is experiencing the biggest crisis in its history.

At the same time, he raised the issue of imposing a price cap on PCR tests or some other practice of reducing the cost of travel.

The Johnson administration’s goal is to curb the spread of the Omicron mutation, which scientists say will become the dominant mutation in the country in the coming weeks.

It is true that there are already 336 confirmed cases in the UK and in fact, based on the trend, they double every three days. On the positive side, so far, none of the new mutation cases have been admitted to hospital, giving hope that the vaccines will remain effective.

That is why the Johnson administration does not show any intention to take more action before Christmas, relying once again on vaccinating the population with a booster dose, which has reached almost 36% of the population over the age of 12.
