Down Dog Yoga and all the other apps for meditation enthusiasts

It almost seems like a paradox that we connect (to the smartphone) to be able to disconnect. Yet with the pandemic, the meditation and yoga app have experienced a download boom, converting the need for calm and spirituality into a billionaire business.

Meditation teaches us that for a few moments we can allow ourselves not to think about anything, not to be performing, but simply to “be”. All with the guidance of whispered voices that anticipated the Asmr videos which, with a persuasive and delicate tone, manage to relax creating a sensory synaesthesia that also reaches the brain.

Meditation changes people, in the brain, body and soul. A number of studies have shown that it lowers blood pressure and levels of the stress hormone cortisol, improving mood and reducing the incidence of anxiety and depression. It makes people more focused, more self-aware, more resilient and even happier. It is perhaps the only way that allows you to achieve something without having to do anything.

Down Dog Yoga

Yoga Down Dog ranks seventh among the most downloaded yoga apps with 82,000 downloads. Proposes on-demand yoga and meditation sessions, to be chosen according to the time of day and the goal. You can select the music, the voice, the level, the duration. The more the practice is integrated with one’s inner rhythm and day, the more the benefits are real.

Headspace guides

the Headspace guides it’s an app to download on your smartphone, but it’s also a series Netflix dedicated to meditation. There are eight episodes in all, lasting 20 minutes, which teach how to dialogue with kindness with your mind. At first it feels like looking at a Pixar cartoon, which visually represents the flow of our thoughts. As always, the medium makes the message more effective, different for each episode, including letting go of the past, cultivating gratitude, dealing with stress, pain and anger. To give the right rhythm to the breath is the voice of Andy Puddicombe, co-founder of Headspace and former Tibetan Buddhist monk.

Netflix, what the new series teaches us about meditation

Wellness H24: meditation in music

A podcast, available on Audible, created by Daniel Lumera, an expert in wellness sciences, meditation and in particular in the meditation of kindness and Emiliano Toso, musician, composer and cell biologist. A path that through conscious breathing, visualization, meditation and music, allows you to integrate new habits with a high impact on well-being, health and quality of life into everyday life and to transform every day into a conscious experience. There are 17 tracks divided into 4 specific sections that follow the physiological cycle of the day. The practice of meditation is empowered by music: Emiliano’s notes are unknowingly special to the ear of the listener because the acoustic instruments are tuned to 432Hz a frequency that, compared to the standard one set at 440 Hz, promotes states of relaxation, transports towards one’s inner silence and is more in tune with the vibrations of the body and nature. Thanks to his training as a cell biologist, Emiliano is studying the scientific evidence of the impact that the combination of meditation and music has on the anti-inflammatory and regenerative activity of cells through markers.
