The adventures of the family and servants of Downton Abbey are back in the new film Downton Abbey – A New Era, in theaters distributed by Universal Pictures Italia. It is 1928, and since her health has deteriorated, the Countess Mother, widow Crawley (Maggie Smith), has moved back to Downton to be closer to her family. Lord Grantham announces that the family lawyer will visit Downton at the request of the Countess Mother and that the whole family must be present. Violet has in fact inherited a villa in the south of France which she, in turn, wants to bequeath to Sybbie, the daughter of Lady Sybil and Branson. Tom Branson doesn’t like her very much. Filled with questions as to why the late Marquess of Montmirail left such a generous gift to the Countess Mother, Lord Grantham receives an interesting phone call. Mister Barber, a director of the British Lion film company, wants to set his next silent film, The Gambler, in Downton Abbey. Robert thinks it’s a grotesque idea but, with a big offer on his plate and a quick tour of the attics and roof with Lady Mary, he reluctantly allows Mary to take care of it and do what he thinks is best.
These are the premises of a chapter that divides the twenty-two protagonists in two dream locations, the first is always the historic Downton Abbey, while the villa in the south of France is the famous Relais & Châteaux au Cap d’Antibesfamous for still hosting celebrities from all over the world when they participate in the Cannes Film Festival.
And celebrities are spoken of in this film, those who “invade” Downton Abbey to shoot a silent film. A clash and encounter that will partially demolish the certainties and expectations of the Hollywood star system. A really fun inside joke, which became reality when George Clooney showed up on the set during a charity event.
In the video interviews we talked about it with Laura Carmichael , Allen Leech And Michelle Dockery.
