Health authorities have confirmed a third case of Ebola in the city of Badaka, in the northwestern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced today.
The 48-year-old, who was a high-risk contact of the first person who contracted hemorrhagic fever during the recent outbreak of the virus in the country, the WHO clarified in a message on Twitter.
The WHO notes that the first person to be infected with Ebola in the recent wave, which is the 14th of its kind in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, died on April 21.
Health workers began vaccinating against Ebola last week in Badaka, the capital of Equatorial Guangdong.
Authorities have identified 444 contacts of the confirmed cases and are monitoring their health, according to the WHO.
