Skin cancer, the most frequent neoplasia in Brazil and worldwide, represents about 30% of all malignant tumors in the country, according to data from the National Cancer Institute (INCA). Given this worrying scenario, experts emphasize the importance of early diagnosis and regular self -examination.
In the program CNN Vital Signs dermatologist Paula Bellotti emphasizes the need to be aware of possible signs of the disease, such as blemishes, injuries or spots with color, shape or size changes. “It is essential that people perform self -examination monthly,” says the expert.
The ABCDE rule
To facilitate the identification of suspicious signals, doctors recommend the rule of ABCDE :
- THE – Asymmetry: When a half of the injury is different from the other.
- B – Irregular edges: Injury contours are undefined or blurred.
- W – Color: Presence of various shades in the same lesion, ranging from brown to black, blue or red.
- D – Diameter: Injuries larger than 6 millimeters deserve attention.
- AND – Evolution: Changes in the appearance of injury over time.
Dermatologist Marco Antônio Oliveira, from AC Camargo Hospital, adds that wounds that do not heal are also a cause for concern. “Non -healing unhealthy lesions that bleed or scratch should be evaluated by a doctor,” he warns.
Oliveira also points out that any wound that does not heal within a month deserves special attention. “Many times, patients report that it looked like a spine that did not heal. If after a month the injury persists, it is time to seek medical help,” he explains.
Early prevention and diagnosis are fundamental for the effective treatment of skin cancer. In addition to regular self -examination, experts recommend daily use of sunscreen, prevent sun exposure at peak times and wear clothes and accessories that protect the skin.
