Drag Race Italia 2, what happened in the fifth episode

A 360° show: the fifth episode of Drag Race Italy 2airing Nov. 17 on Discovery+, is themed Drag Festivals and the sparkling atmosphere of the celebrations is immediately perceived. Guest judges of the episode: the dancer Vito Coppola and Nick Cerionistylist of the Maneskin, Laura Pausini and Priscilla, already present at the jury desk during the first edition of the program.

There mini challenge – Tuckiroulant

The speed challenge requires drag girls to transform into athletes in heels, step on the Tapis Roulant and center a small pole positioned a few centimeters from them with a circle while the pit crew try to hinder them, distract them and throw them off balance. This bizarre Olympic discipline is fun with simplicity, especially since almost all of them fail. Nehellenia, as usual, puts on a real show, like La Petite Noire, which instead is the only one together with La Diamond to make a center, a pity that the circle has a larger diameter and therefore gives it a lower score. The winner, who does the exercise while singing Madonna, is absolutely stunning. She wins a pin with a picture of red heels and also a scooter.

There big challenge – the Rusical inspired by Lady Gaga

Chiara Francini, who baptizes the competitors Gagotte in the name of Miss Germanotta, tries his hand at choreography rehearsals with them (he’s stronger than her, he just can’t leave the stage and the spotlights). With ups and downs, everyone prepares as best they can, between singing experts (Aura Eternal, finally grappling with a feat within her reach) and choreography neophytes (Gioffrè, who would have complained anyway, so a challenge is worth the other one).

In workshop room in the meantime La Petite Noire tells how the DJ father discovered his homosexuality when she caught him in a disco kissing a boy. He never came back to the console and they found him backstage with a bottle of neat vodka. The reasons are light years away from prejudices and intolerance: the man thought he had failed as a parent if his son didn’t trust him to the point of sharing such a delicate aspect of himself.

There runways – Dancing Queen

The show boasts a very high level of creativity. La Petite Noire takes care of opening the dance with a look (really successful!) that incorporates a shimmering bass, inspired by Lorella Cuccarini. The other queen of the catwalk – it is now a fact – remains The Diamond with an incredible reinterpretation of Madonna’s imagery in disco sauce.

The proposals by Nehellenia are also very good, with a dress-tribute to the music of the 2000s and the titles of the songs written on the dress (but the pink t-shirt could have been avoided!), and by Skandalove, who mixes flared trousers with batwing sleeves and studs (really cool!).

Bringing up the rear – even here no one is surprised anymore – remain Aura Eternal (who mess with the fringes and trudge on heels as always, expanding the runway times in an exasperating way) and Gioffrè (who shows up with the usual mask, arranged make-up and a blue sequined dress that is the wrong size or has a problem with proportions).

The judgements

The Rusical on Lady Gagafor which, according to Priscilla, le queen they did an “excellent job” was partly penalized by the arrangements (with translation) of Lady Gaga’s hits and partly by the confused shots that did not allow you to follow the action on stage. There is no doubt that the competitors gave their all within the limits of their abilities, but everything else is missing, starting from the pace.

The curtain between Nehellenia and Vito Coppola. The competitor enthusiastically commented on the presence of the guest (“so much stuff”) and he too was not indifferent (“We had a visual flirt»). Fittingly, Priscilla told her that she “literally exploded into Rusical.”

On two opposite positions La Diamond and Gioffrè: neither of them has experience in this field but the first has a proactive approach (“I throw myself, I do things without having studied them”) while the second focuses on victimhood and passive-aggressive attitude towards criticism. To Tommaso Zorzi he replies in the confessional with a «Studia a po’», referring to the Nineties inspiration and the length of the dress, which the conductor did not like (how can you blame him?). “I think I did a great job,” he continues Gioffrè in the grip of another delusion of omnipotence, but which does not spare her the well-deserved bottom together with Aura Eternal. Surprisingly, however, they are not the ones who risk going home.

The lip sync

While Skandalove and La Diamond are safe, the lip synch for your life becomes lip sync for your win among the top of the week, La Petite Noire and Nehellenia. She wins the first, but the second was penalized not only by a broken heel during the performance but by the half blow to her heart when she thought she was one step away from Sashay. With her morale evidently underfoot she lost focus and didn’t give her all on the tune of The rhythm of the night of Corona.

Spill the tea

Very balanced both the choice of the best and the worst of the week, but Lady Gaga deserved better (as well as competitors). The WOW effect that was expected from the tricolor Rusical has not arrived. Even though without disturbing Herstory’s jewels RuPaul like Moulin Ru! or the homage to Madonnaone should still aim for excellence, not settle for a pale imitation or at least avoid comparisons with sacred monsters such as the Poker Face diva.
