Drag Race Italia 2, what happened in the sixth episode (the best of the season, so far)

In Season 2’s HERstory Drag Race Italy a breakthrough has just come: the sixth episode, aired on Discovery+ on November 24, wins by far the primacy of best episode of this new chapter.

Everything works and works well (with a side note on the evaluations of the judges, but that’s another story): from the pace of the minichallenge – an exhilarating test to say the least with the right point of mischief – to the choice of the maxi, the makeover which has always had a gigantic symbolic value in the course of RuPaul’s show. Guest judge Claudia Gerini is also a soccer fan, which plays (it must be said) decidedly to his advantage and that of the show. The bottom and even more the top deserved, which projects the five remaining queens towards the semifinal and outlines more and more clearly what type of competitor is making the greatest growth path.

Why make it clear right away? Because so far some choices have been lame and other challenges have not obtained a satisfactory result and with (almost) all really good drag, the expectations seemed partly disregarded. As Bianca Del Rio would say, «Not today, Satan». But let’s proceed in order, let’s rewind the tape and start from the return to the work room after the triumph at the lyp sinc of La Petite Noire for the victory of the fifth episode.

A prize and a surprise in the workshop

La Petite Noire wins an Eden Viaggi voucher worth 1000 euros but what made her and her colleagues really happy is another type of surprise. Specifically, the arrival of Vito Coppola in the werkroom, which upset the hormonal level of the room. The guest judge of the fifth episode wanted to personally thank the queens: «(Yours) is really a beautiful world, I became a fan, I saw healthy competition and a lot of sensitivity». Among the general shock, the only one who has not lost the use of the word remains La Diamond: «I am a victim of sentimental strategism». After the dancer’s kiss, her confusion seems even more evident, with La Petite Noire adding: «You are a cream». Curtain.

The mini-challenge

The title of the episode is Drag in the ball. And the mini challenge brings to mind the scene of Sex and the City in which Samantha fills her body with sushi, for you to feast on her boyfriend. It happened more or less like this, with the contestants blindfolded and with their hands tied behind their backs they taste food laid out on top of a pit crew member, lying on a table. The challenge is to guess as many dishes as possible but it’s easy to lose count among the irreverent and delighted comments of the queens, finally carefree and at ease with a spicy try but without ever becoming vulgar. Even Gioffrè’s joke makes you laugh without falling into the usual victimhood («I’m not full, give me him directly»). She echoes them La Petite Noire: «This situation could become soft porn in 3, 2, 1». For Nehellenia it seems instead «50 shades of Zorzi», while Skanda Love sighs: «Ah, if I had known what she had underneath». The temperature is also rising for Aura Eternal: «This being tied up is teasing me». And it is she who wins the pin and a musical system.

The big challenge

The makeover always has a very strong emotional component, by those who are subject to it because it falls within the sphere of first times, but also by those who are subject to it because they feel the emotional weight of a debut, of course, but also of absolute trust. You become a team of two, to all intents and purposes, communicating vessels that share energies and experiences.

This year, no boyfriends, friends and relatives, as happened for the first season. The sportsmen of the 5 Lupi Roma soccer team, famous for being friendly and inclusive, get involved in all senses. The goal is to match the look of the drag with that of the footballer, to give a sense of complementarity in familiarity (spoiler alert: this aspect, crucial in other editions as well, was not taken into consideration by the jury in expressing the judgments on the runaway and it is thethe only drawback in an episode that is nothing short of excellent. Pity!).

The first to choose the companion for the fashion show is Aura Eterna, which focuses on Francesco. The footballer shares the experience of the binder (a band used to compress the breast) with the competitor and the queen, with great tact and clarity, explains to the public what it is about, saying that it is a way “to feel more like yourself” . Nehellenia chooses a teammate of the same name and comments: «Removed the beard from Luquisha Lubamba can become Electra Bionic». Diamond prefers Daniele because she “is really masculu” and she says she has performed several times for the shows organized for AS Roma.

Another surprise in the workshop

During the make up session Diamond officially asks Aura Eternal to be her drag mom and she gladly accepts. She who knows how it will work in terms of competition and whether or not the gap between the two will create family tensions! For now, the gesture is only very generous and tender.

The runway

The theme of the catwalk is Drag in sport.

Aura Eternal renames its partner in the fashion show Proxima Eternal, focuses on football and becomes a ball (a discreet result, unlike the partner-door which visually does not match her look at all). Claudia Gerini praises “the witty and ironic attitude”.

Nehellenia fencing with Fantàsia totally and masterfully hitting the sense of the runaway (far ahead of the competition). For Chiara Francini it is “10 cum laude” (what else?).

Only La Petite Noire comes close to its results by staging rhythmic gymnastics with its ally, Belle Soir, in a ribbon version (she is harmonious, the leotard is stunning but something is missing…). The guest judge applauds the “very elegant” style.

Diamond becomes a soccer player with a she-wolf on her chest together with a companion who is more gladiator than athlete, La Golden (the famous aesthetic affinity is latent). Here too the guest actress appears ecstatic: «You were an apparition».

Gioffrè’s cunning must be recognized in placing my colleague Jeffrey on wedges instead of heels. The idea of American football with spikes on the big shoulders isn’t bad at all and neither is that of the helmet (which in any case camouflages the lack of make-up mastery well), but on the Morticia Addams-style skirt it’s better to spread a pitiful veil. Priscilla comments, “The dress wore you.” And Claudia Gerini adds: «I missed a bit of a show».

Skanda Love could have made Casta Love’s look more like hers, but instead she got lost in the details. Tommaso Zorzi points out: «I have a problem of proportions with this look». And, as a great professional, the competitor takes the criticisms with grace (unlike, this time too, Gioffrè, who paws, puffs and rolls his eyes, totally impervious to any comment).

The lyp sync

Diamond is safe, like Aura Eternal which – thanks to Skanda Love’s misstep – avoids the lyp sync. The competitor has to deal with Gioffrè on the notes of Pem Pem by Elettra Lamborghini and has the upper hand thanks to a truly remarkable performance. Once again she has shown that she masters the stage and knows the trade and for Gioffrè it’s time for Sashay Away.

La Petite Noire is safe and – finally!!! – Nehellenia wins her first maxi challenge, as Priscilla points out: «Your drag performance had it all! He was unbeatable!” If she had played tennis she would have said to her: Set, match, game.

He could easily quote a joke of the Sailor Moon character from which he takes his stage name: «My dream will come true». Tongue pop.
