Draghi, for the third time among 100 most influential characters according to Time

This is the third time this has happened: Prime Minister Mario Draghi is for the third time – and the only Italian – among the 100 characters considered most influential in the ranking of Time from 2021. The reasons for this choice are explained by the American secretary to the Treasury, Janet Yellen.

“Central bankers’ speeches are not typically inspirational, but Mario Draghi’s remarks from July 2012 in London (Yellen refers to the message from London’s Lancaster House, when the president said the ECB was” ready for anything “- “whatever it takes»- to save the Euro) were an exception. Mario and the ECB helped stabilize the European economy. At the time I was at the Federal Reserve and felt particularly grateful to have a partner like Mario across the Atlantic, someone with deep experience and a consistent demeanor. Now the United States are grateful to have Mario as a partner Once again. This time, as Italian prime minister ».

And again: «Mario is leading his nation through the pandemic with a skilful hand, supporting one rapid vaccination campaign and relief measures to help businesses and Italian workers. Backed by a large allocation of EU funds, it has set in motion many necessary – and politically difficult – policies and investments to green the Italian economy, reduce inequalities and advance digitalization, ”he explained. “And with Italy leading this year’s G-20, Mario is bringing together the world’s major economies to end the pandemic, promote an inclusive global recovery and address urgent global issues such as climate change.” It’s been nine years since that famous speech, “but Mario’s approach of doing everything possible it is more relevant and stimulating than ever ».

In addition to Draghi, among the leaders included in the ranking of Time there are, among others, US President Joe Biden and his predecessor Donald Trump.
