Draghi: ‘I respect parliamentary democracy, I did not ask for absolute powers’

Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi was curt and clearly irritated, during his deputation, a little while ago in the Senate of Rome.

In more detail, Mario Draghi emphasized:

“Thank you to those who supported our government. Our democracy is parliamentary, I respect and recognize it, I did not ask for full powers, I asked for the support of the parliament. I said that we started a dialogue on the minimum wage and we will continue it with unions and entrepreneurs. As for the unemployment benefit, I consider it to be something positive, but when it does not work efficiently, it is negative. I ask for a vote of confidence, based on the proposal of the senator Pierferdinando Cazzini, which foresees the uninterrupted continuation of the government work”.

The Italian technocrat prime minister rejected, in this way, the request of the center-right (Lega and Forza Italia) for a renegotiation of the government program and a change of some of the ministers. At the same time, he sent to the Five Stars the message that he does not mean to give further “explanations”, regarding the implementation of measures such as the unemployment benefit and the state incentives for the renovation of the buildings.
