Draghi also condemned the government set up by the Taliban: “The composition of the new executive does not meet expectations of the international community of an inclusive and representative government ”. It is the Taliban who must “demonstrate with their choices, and not just in words, that they believe in respect for individual freedoms”.

Regarding what is happening in Kabul, he said: “We are witnessing the dismantling the progress of the past 20 years in relation to the defense of fundamental freedoms, especially for women“. The premier therefore asked for a synergistic intervention, inviting the international community “to collaborate effectively, starting with the exchange of information”. “For some time now we have been witnessing a progressive weakening of multilateralism”, he explained, “which has guaranteed peace, security and prosperity since the post-war period.
