Dramatic fiction “Sunday night” starring Marieta Severo It is Zé Carlos Machado and that talks about Alzheimer's and aging premieres this Thursday (4) in Brazilian cinemas.
Directed by André Bushatsky, scripted by Bruno Gonzalez and produced by Márcia Nepomuceno, the film shows the life of Margot (Marieta Severo), one of Brazil's greatest actresses, married to Antônio (Zé Carlos Machado), an award-winning writer and with advanced Alzheimer's , changes completely when he discovers that he also has the disease.
While she struggles to maintain the couple's independence and take care of her husband alone, she faces difficulties finishing her last work as an actress. She also struggles to keep love alive in the face of her husband's lack of memory.
Premiering at the Rio 2022 Festival in the Hors Concours Novos Rumos category, “Domingo à Noite” was selected for the Montreal Independent Film Festival 2022, and was the only Brazilian feature film selected for the Boston Film Festival 2022 virtual showcase.
The film was also at the Madrid Film Awards (MADFA) 2023, where Marieta Severo received the award for Best Actress for her performance.
The idea for the film came from a personal experience of screenwriter Bruno Gonzalez after the death of his grandfather and the appearance of the first signs of dementia in his grandmother.
“I wanted to contribute to this reflection, so we can think about how to act, how to understand the feelings of those who are going through this”, comments the screenwriter.
Also in the cast are Natália Lage, Johnnas Oliva, Isio Guelman, Karen Coelho, Hugo Bonemer and Bárbara Santos.
The film is produced by Valenza Filmes and is distributed by O2 Play.
