Driver becomes defendant in fatal accident involving Corinthians fan bus

The Court of Justice of Minas Gerais accepted the Public Prosecutor’s Office’s complaint against the driver responsible for the accident that resulted in the death of seven passengers and left another 27 injured on a bus carrying Corinthians fans.

The MP reported Cleber Felipe Vicente Martins, 39 years old, for seven negligent homicides, attributing recklessness and negligence in the transportation of passengers.

The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of August 20, 2023, when the bus carrying Corinthians fans overturned on the Fernão Dias highway.

According to investigations, the driver, who was driving the vehicle with 43 members of the Gaviões da Fiel organized fan club, lost control of the bus on a curve.

According to the MP, the bus was in precarious conditions, with inadequate tires, inoperative tachograph and parts that compromised transport safety.

The complaint requires not only the conviction of the driver, but also the setting of minimum amounts to compensate the damages caused to the victims, including moral damages.

According to reports from survivors and information from firefighters, the driver noticed the brake failure moments before the bus collided with a ravine and overturned.

The case now goes to trial, where the driver’s responsibility for the tragic event will be decided.
