Two Reuters journalists were injured in the attack near the eastern Ukrainian city of Severodonetsk, a Reuters spokesman confirmed to CNN in a statement this Friday (3).
The driver of the vehicle they were traveling in died, the source said.
“During a reporting trip, two Reuters journalists suffered minor injuries when they were attacked on their way to Sevierodonetsk. They were traveling in a vehicle provided by the Russian-backed separatists and driven by an individual designated by the separatists. The driver of the vehicle died,” the Reuters spokesperson said.
“Reuters wishes its deepest condolences to the driver’s family for his loss,” the agency’s representative said.
The spokesperson did not provide additional details about the incident.
The city of Severodonetsk in Ukraine’s Luhansk region has suffered some of the heaviest bombing in recent days.
The Ukrainian military said on Friday that shelling of defensive positions continued and reported Russian air strikes in the area.
