Thiago Arruda, the driver who ran over and killed pagode singer Adalto Mello, had a blood alcohol level 20.5 times higher than permitted by law.
The 39-year-old musician died in the early hours of last Sunday (29) after his motorcycle was hit by a car in São Vicente, on the coast of São Paulo.
According to the police report, Thiago Arruda Campos Rosas, 32 years old, had slurred speech, red eyes and a staggering gait. He confessed to being the driver of the vehicle and claimed that Adalto’s motorcycle suddenly appeared in front of him.
The breathalyzer test carried out on the driver revealed a level of 0.82 mg/l of alcohol per liter of expelled air, exceeding the limit of 0.04 mg/l established by the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB) by 20.5 times.
According to the São Paulo Court of Justice, Thiago Arruda underwent a custody hearing last Monday (30) and had his arrest converted to preventive arrest.
The victim’s mother, Carla Vanessa, expressed her anger and desire for justice: “he took the risk of killing anyone, because he had studied, he knew what he could do, he could kill anyone, but he killed the Adalto..”
