The search for Brazilian fugitive Danilo Cavalcante in the United States ended this Wednesday (13) thanks to a combination of strategies by the North American police that included everything from a drone with a thermal camera to dogs trained by the corporation.
At around two o’clock in the morning, the drone detected a heat signal in a forested area 50 km from Philadelphia. Police officers surrounded the perimeter, but a storm forced the suspension of drone activities.
Shortly after eight in the morning local time (9 in the morning BrasÃlia time), the searches were resumed and the teams went to the place where the heat signal had been detected.
Cavalcante was lying in the middle of the forest on top of the rifle he was carrying. Upon noticing the police approaching, he tried to crawl away, but was stopped by a dog trained by the police. The dog even bit the fugitive, who was treated at the scene and escorted by agents.
No police officers or civilians were injured during the search, which took fourteen days. During the operation, authorities changed the search perimeter several times, based on information about the whereabouts of Cavalcante, who was caught on security cameras and breaking into a house, where he managed to steal the rifle he was carrying when he was captured.
