Drought in China exposes 3 600-year-old Buddhist statues

Recently, the Chinese state media Xinhua reported that the low water level of a reef, located on an island in the Yangtze River, uncovered three Buddhist statues that are believed to be approximately 600 years old.

The figure found shows three small statues in cavities cut into the rock. One of them represents a monk sitting on a lotus pedestal, while in the two remaining holes two other monks can be seen sitting. Due to its antiquity, experts say it could be from the Ming and Qing dynasties.
