A 29-year-old driver ran over five athletes on Thursday morning (1) in a street race at Ponta Negra Praia Complex in Manaus, Amazonas. The accident resulted in the death of a person. Emanuel Fernandes, 26, could not resist his injuries and died on Friday morning (2).
The Sports Confederation of Athletics of the State of Amazonas confirmed the brain death of Emanuel and regretted the incident, making himself available to the authorities and relatives of the victims. The Sesi-AM institution, organizer of the event, also lamented the death of the Manauara athlete.

According to the Civil Police of Amazonas, the man was filed in the act by intentional bodily injury, when he took over the vehicle with the altered (drunk) psychomotor capacity. He goes at the disposal of the Amazon Justice.

The Amazonas Civil Police (PC-AM), through the 19th Integrated Police District (DIP), reports that a 29-year-old man was presented at the police unit by a 8th Community Interactive Company (Cicom) garrison of the Amazonas Military Police (PMAM), for involvement in a traffic accident that hit five people who were participating in a street race at dawn (1/5) Colonel Teixeira, Ponta Negra neighborhood, West Zone.
The State Department of Traffic of Amazonas (Detran-AM) reports that, as soon as it became aware of the accident, sent a team of expertise to the site. A driver’s alcohol test was performed, which presented a result of 0.64 mg/l. The author was filed in the act for intentional body injury towards a motor vehicle with the altered psychomotor capacity and is available to the courts.
The State Secretariat of Health of Amazonas (SES-AM) reports that the victims were directed to Emergency Care units, being hospital and emergency room João Lúcio, and at the South Hospital Complex (CHS), the health of patients is restricted to family members.
