Dua Lipa and the pride of having received Albanian citizenship

Dua Lipa is over the moon after the President of Albania Bajram Begaj granted her the citizenship. The British pop star, born in 1995 in London to Albanian parents who emigrated to the United Kingdom at the beginning of the 90s from Priština, in the then Yugoslav province of Kosovo, has said in various interviews that she is strongly attached to her family roots in Albania.

With the granting of citizenship, President Begaj wanted to reward «the artist’s role in spreading the fame of Albanians internationally through his music»as reported by the British magazine The Guardian. The citizenship was granted ahead of the 110th anniversary of Albania’s independence from the Ottoman Empire.
